Yesterday I was lucky enough to get invited for a little sneak peek preview of a new vintage department store opening in Birmingham. It's called Mr Birds Emporium and it's situated in the very arty Custard Factory in Digbeth. This magical vintage place aims to bring together designers, graduates & every craft/vintage spirited individual in Birmingham creating one big 'tash emporium. Sir Frederick Alfred Bird, the inventor of Bird's Custard and the gentleman whose name this amazing place carries, would have been proud, I'm tellin ya!
Mr Birds Emporium is situated right in the very heart of the Custard Factory so there's no way you could miss it. The store itself is not massive, yet it's absolutely packed with all things pretty & vintage. When walking around, you wouldn't necessarily realize that the store is divided into a number of little independent businesses - from Uptodated and Sneeky Fox Apparel (clothing & accessorise boutiques) to Nothing New (alteration and repairs service) and many many more. Here are a few snaps of the sneak preview night.
You can find so many quirky and vintage treasures here, it's unreal! Just to name a few: galaxy converse-style shoes, vintage phones & cameras, crazy glasses, 'tash earrings, rings, handbags, sparkly vintage jackets, cut off bum-showing denim shorts, home decor, cat prints, studded tops, 'tash tops, rings that look like doughnuts and sweets. On the night there was even a DJ!
Although all stalls were absolutely amazing, there was one little corner that was right up my alley! It's called Bits & Bows. This boutique is run by fashion graduate Sarah Warner and sells all things pink, cute & pretty! Although majority of the pieces were pretty girly (yes, I'm coming back for you strawberry ear muffs! *instant love*), even my boyfriend found tops he wanted to buy for himself (one even had a 'tash on it!). Look how stunningly cute everything in the store was!
The Custard Factory is in general a lovely place to go & hang about on a sunny Saturday - especially when the Vintage Fair is on. Might be worth it to show you what the Vintage Fair is like in a post in the future, what do you think?
Mr Birds Emporium officially opens today on the 13th October 2012! If you're going to spend your day in the Birmingham city centre, I definitely recommend you go and have a look at Mr Bird & his 'tash kingdom - it's just a 5 minute walk down to Digbeth from Bull Ring & you might snap some cutesy little treasures! Oh, and do not touch the strawberry ear muffs, they are mine, muhahaa!
