Not only is Birmingham the second city, it's also a wicked place when it comes to student life! You get your standard student venues & places to be, such as Gatecrasher & Mailbox, but when I was a student (rewind about a year back for the saucier months, although I did just have my graduation) my student life was basically a 24/7 budgeting struggle. The top venues were not exactly my first choice then - instead I'd explore the independent Birmingham! With a bit of help from Asos, I've got a little series of my favourite independent venues comin' up over the next 2 weeks. Keep your eyes peeled!

I'm a tad of an old fashioned git - I love places with a vintage retro feel to them (& most of the time they prove to be quite budget friendly too!). Saying this, it would be rude not to pop down to the Custard Factory in Digbeth & visit Urban Village! You think what a little cutesy shop when you see it from the outside, but once you're inside - it's massive! The ground floor houses a huge collection on vintage fashion & the lower floor (my personal fave) has an uber cool record shop. Oh, c'mon, who doesn't like old LP's? It's the ultimate geek thing, but they do sound like absolute magic when you play them! When me & Justin went there on Saturday I picked up Placebo & a special green edition of John Lennon's War is Over for something ridiculous like 2 quid! There are quite a few record shops in Brum but this one is defo the top one for the young & quirky atmosphere and affordable prices!
